Lisa Gotto studied Theatre, Film and Television Studies, German and English Literature in Cologne, Bochum and Warwick (GB). She received her M.A. from the University of Cologne in 2001 and her Ph.D. from the Bauhaus University Weimar in 2006. From 2001 to 2007 she was a research and teaching assistant at the Bauhaus University Weimar and the University of Television and Film Munich, from 2007 to 2010 she was Assistant Professor for Media Studies at the University of Mannheim and the University of Regensburg. From 2010 on, she was Professor for Film History and Film Analysis at ifs international film school Cologne, and from 2016-2018 Professor for Media and Game Studies at Cologne Game Lab. She then went to be a fellow at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) and later that year moved to the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna where she has been working since as a Professor for Theory of Film. She co-founded and co-edits (together with Prof. Dr. Gundolf S. Freyermuth) the book series “Bild und Bit. Studies in Digital Media Culture“. She is also member of the editorial board of Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds (Bristol: Intellect Ltd.). Lisa Gotto’s main research interests are in Theory, History and Aesthetics of Film, Post Cinema, Game Studies, Digital Media Culture and Media Comparative Studies.
