The nominees for the “German Developer Award” 2021 have been made public. The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021, starting at 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Cologne Game Lab as well as in a big show in a live stream on deutscherentwicklerpreis.de and rocketbeans.tv.

Due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, the award ceremony will take place as a ‘hybrid event’. Only the nominees and guests of honor can join in the on-site audience. The jury selected the best games and teams of the year in 15 categories from a total of 140 entries.

A hot contender for an award this year is the game “Suzerain”, nominated in three categories. The game began as a BA thesis at CGL (by Ilke Karademir) that was called “Representation of Politics in Political Games” and received the top grade of 1.0 at the time. This year, it was already awarded with the German Computergame Award in the category “Best expert game”. This time around, it is nominated in the following categories: Best German Game, Best Game Design & Best Story. So, all the best of luck, we keep our fingers crossed!

Another team, we are crossing our fingers for, is AAS Achtung Autobahn Studios whose game “Maniacs” is nominated for the Ubisoft Newcomer Award! Maniacs is a narrative-based adventure game situated the late 1960s and early 1970s West Berlin during the rising fervor of political unrest. The team is part of CGLs Cologne Game Incubator and consists of CGL alumni.

Congratulations! We are looking forward to the ceremony on December, 9!
