“Claw and Conquer” is a singleplayer crossbreed of a claw machine and a real-time strategy game. The player uses a proprietary controller meant to emulate a classic claw machine, mixed with some extra features to ensure smooth gameplay.
The core gameplay loop consists of going through levels, with each one presenting both new challenges and opportunities, as the player slowly discovers what interesting options the game has hidden from them from the start.
The claw itself can do a wide array of activities – initially it can only pick up and drop units on the field, but over time can be used to heal, damage and stun all different things.
There is a variety of units:
The Hunter, a nimble and powerful attacker, who when employed correctly can deal massive damage to enemies. But beware that for its great power it cannot survive much damage!
The Titan, a massive and punchy defender that can brawl with most units. It can survive a lot and can be upgraded into helping other units, but by itself it struggles a lot with groups of enemies.
The Mother, a long range specialist – she can throw projectiles from a distance, which can be used to bait enemies into less favorable positions in a lot of different situations. She herself doesn’t deal much damage and can’t survive that much, but her utility makes her a must for any complex level.
The game is currently with 5 levels within itself, all presented in a gothic stylized top-down perspective. Every unit is fully animated with ragdoll support, which comes in especially handy with all of the claw’s powerful throws and drops.
Finally, the game is supported with music and sound effects for each and every unit, helping further immerse the player in a dark and mysterious world.
