On November 28 CGL alumna Carmen Schneidereit will introduce you to the art of lighting for video games in her Guest Lecture at CGL!

Title: Lighting in Games

Abstract: This guest lecture will introduce you to the art of lighting for video games.

Historically lighting has played an important role in all art forms – from painting to stage performance to photography. In the last decade lighting has also become an essential part of video game graphics. Major game titles are being developed with specialized teams of lighters who are responsible for the lighting and cinematography of the game world.

This lecture will cover lighting fundamentals for artists and designers and will give a behind-the-scenes look into how video games are lit.

About the Speaker: Carmen Schneidereit is a lighting artist for video games currently living and working in London. She has 4+ years of experience in lighting for AAA games. In 2023 she joined Blizzard Entertainment on an unannounced game project.

Outside of work, she enjoys real-world lighting and photography, currently working on a portrait series inspired by paintings and fairytales. Since 2020 she is also organizing portfolio mentoring session for gamedevs from marginalized groups.

Carmen is an alumna of the Cologne Game Lab, where she graduated in 2018.
