The first Guest Lecture of 2023 is finally coming up!

On April 11 Charlotte Knorr will talk about “Evidence-based Game Design: What it Takes to Create Effective Serious Games”.

Digital games benefit from player research before and during all design and development phases. Defining and thoroughly understanding a target group for serious and entertainment games facilitates effectiveness and support commercial success. This guest lecture deals with the why and how of using or even gathering research data to gain more insight into the minds of players (and learners), which otherwise remain a black box or subject to speculative assumptions.

This guest lecture aims to comprehensively introduce player research fields focused on but not limited to serious games. Furthermore, approaches linking research and design as well as the actual transfer of research data into game design are described and illustrated. Finally, proper handling of research data or even generation through (game) data analytics or conducting your own small-scale study is also outlined in this lecture.
