This Master’s project by Savish Uttam revives Max Ernst’s iconic Capricorn sculpture in a detailed digital reconstruction. While the original is lost and museum replicas fall short of capturing its intricacies, this project uses historical references and photographs to create the most faithful version of the artwork to date.
The experience extends beyond Capricorn with a virtual recreation of Ernst’s Sedona hut and the surrounding landscape where the sculpture was originally created. Inside the hut, a 3D rendering of Ernst’s painting The Elephant Celebes invites viewers to step directly into his surreal vision. By interacting with a virtual brush, users activate elements of the painting, experiencing motion, soundscapes, and an immersive environment that brings Ernst’s art to life.
